Dehenna Davison MP has praised local healthcare workers for their incredibly fast and effective rollout of the Coronavirus Vaccine across the region.
With over 2.6 million vaccine doses now administered across the UK [stat as of: 13/01/2021] the Government are said to be on track to meet their ambitious target of vaccinating the four most vulnerable groups by the middle of February. 88% of COVID deaths have been from people in those four priority groups, so there are high hopes that the first phase of the vaccination programme will greatly reduce the number of COVID deaths, and those facing the most serious illness from the virus.
Phase one of the vaccine rollout scheme vaccinating the top four most vulnerable groups will see residents in a care homes, their carers, those over 80 years old as well as frontline health and social care workers, and the at-risk population in order of age and clinical risk factors vaccinated first.
One local resident, who has now received their second dose of the vaccine, said:
“The Richardson Hospital in Barnard Castle is doing an amazing job vaccinating everyone. Attending both appointments, it was quick, clean, efficient and there was no queue. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.”
Recent reports suggest the rollout of the vaccine in the North-East and Yorkshire is the best in the UK. Commenting on the vaccination programme, Dehenna Davison MP for Bishop Auckland said:
“I have had pretty much unanimously positive feedback from constituents about the vaccination centres here in the North East, especially the Richardson Hospital in Barnard Castle. Speaking with local care home managers, as I understand it every care home in the constituency of Bishop Auckland has now been vaccinated with the first dose.
“The success of the local vaccination rollout can only be accredited to the fantastic, dedicated staff who are working from 8am-8pm to deliver the rollout of the vaccine. All our thanks should go to the staff responsible for seeing the rollout of the vaccine.”
Despite over 2 million people being vaccinated against Coronavirus, England’s Chief Medical officer and Health Secretary have warned that the latest vaccine news should not become a cause for complacency and reinstated the need to follow the rules.
