Dehenna Davison MP is to host an online awards ceremony featuring special guests on Thursday the 28th of January, to mark the achievements of local heroes and their work during the pandemic in 2020.
Since April last year, Dehenna Davison MP has been marking the hard work of residents through her Unsung Heroes scheme. To leave 2020 on a positive note, Davison held a public vote to crown one hero with the title of Unsung Hero of the Year. Nominees included Kim Clarke for her work delivering free hot food to the vulnerable, Paul Brown for his incredible singing keeping spirits high through the most difficult months, and the team at Babul’s in Barnard Castle for their incredible community work. But there could only be one winner, and voters crowned Tom Howe and Alex Humphries from COVID Cutz their winner.
COVID Cutz became known to many after the closure of barbers left the nation with the responsibility to cut or shave their own hair. The group, created to share lighter moments of the pandemic, was also used to fundraise for supplies to help local hospitals and charities.
Dehenna Davison said:
“In light of the lockdown we had to get creative with how we recognised Alex and Tom, as well as all the other nominees, for their fantastic work and I am looking forward to getting them all together virtually to celebrate their achievements.
“Last year was exceptionally tough on us all, so I hope that this ceremony can provide a bit of positivity and entertainment for people. We have some very exciting special guests lined up, and I hope soon I will be able to swing by and thank the shortlisted nominees in person.”
The awards ceremony is set to take place on the 28th of January at 7pm and can be watched via Dehenna Davison’s Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DehennaDavison/
